BREAKING NEWS!! The Rain Barrel Rebate Program has arrived!Skip the wait. Install yourself. Receive a rebate!DC Greenworks is moving fast to reach 1000 rain barrels installed by the end of the year. We install more than 50 rain barrels every month! However, the popularity of the RiverSmart Homes Program means that there is currently about a 3 to 5 month wait from the time you sign up, to the time you receive your rain barrel. The Rain Barrel Rebate Program allows the homeowner to install a rain barrel today, tomorrow, whenever they are ready. In addition, the rebate provides the homeowner with more options to choose from. There are currently seven rain barrels which are eligible for the rebate. Please click on the links provided below to learn more about the Rain Barrel Rebate Program, and to download an application and brief instructions on how to install the barrel. Please read carefully to make sure the barrel you choose is on the list of approved barrels, and to ensure that your barrel is installed safely and correctly. Call Cody at 202-518-6195, or email cody@dcgreenworks.org, if you have any questions about the program, the instructions to install the barrel, or the availability of funding. DC Residents, Get your own Rain Barrel installed for $30.00 through the RiverSmart Homes Program!RiverSmart Homes is a District Department of Environment Program whereby District homeowners can receive up to $1,200 in funding to install native landscaping and other Low Impact Development (LID) features to help reduce stormwater runoff from their property. There are five features available through the program: 1) Rain Barrels, 2) Shade Trees, 3) BayScaping, 4) Rain Gardens, and 5) Pervious Pavers. Rain Barrels (also referred to as above-ground cisterns) collect stormwater from your roof for use as irrigation water for landscaping and gardens. DC Greenworks coordinates and installs the rain barrels obtained through the RiverSmart Homes Program at a cost of $30 per barrel (maximum of two per property) paid by the homeowner. The rain barrels installed through this program have a capacity of 132 gallons, a dual filtration system, a built in diverter for the winter, are fully enclosed to prevent mosquitoes, and are made from 100% recycled plastic. The barrels are made by RiverSides, a nonprofit organization based out of Toronto.
