Emergency Tree Service
If you need help with a hazardous tree that is rooted or has fallen on public property, make your request immediately to the Citywide Call Center at (202) 727-1000. You can also make your request online, but it's faster to call.

Identify the specific location of the tree (i.e. address, street side, alley, private yard) and the service needed (i.e. trimming, removal, fallen limb). Describe the severity of the problem (i.e. limb blocking street, dangerous leaning). The Urban Forestry Administration usually takes 4-24 hours to respond to emergency requests.

To report downed electrical wires and life threatening emergencies only, please call PEPCO at (202) 872-3432.

Local Arborists
If you need help with a tree that is rooted or has fallen on private property, you will need to hire a tree care service. Tree care can be dangerous business. No matter who you hire to care for your trees, make sure the company has insurance and licensed arborists on staff.

You should also know that the Urban Forest Preservation Act prevents anyone in D.C. from cutting down a tree bigger than 55 inches in circumference without a Special Tree permit. You arborist can help you apply if you need to remove a Special Tree.
