Eight Reasons to Invest in D.C. Greenworks
- We're trusted. D.C. Greenworks was recently honored with inclusion in the 2006-2007 Catalogue for Philanthropy as "among the best small charities in the Washington, D.C. region.”
- We are effective. D.C. Greenworks makes a difference at both grassroots and leadership levels, enabling rooftops to become parks and green spaces, local young people to transform their lives, and leaders to translate that local experience into lasting, society-wide changes.
- We're advocates and educators. For the last six years, D.C. Greenworks has worked hand-in-hand with community leaders, residents, neighborhood organizations, non-profits and businesses to demonstrate the value of greenroofing technology in redressing the effects of air and water pollution in D.C. while creating a higher quality of life for residents.
- We trailblaze and facilitate. D.C. Greenworks was the first enterprise to build a public greenroof in Washington in 2001, and we were the first to build a commerical-scale greenroof Downtown in 2004. We have always been a pioneer in advocating and implementing cutting-edge, proven environmental technologies such as greenroofing as a way of improving our health, while creating local jobs and expertise.
And we have the press and awards to show for it!
- We keep it real. D.C. Greenworks recognizes that environmental awareness will only be valuable to people if it translates in practical terms. We make sure our greenroof apprenticeships result in new jobs and new opportunities for business growth. Our apprenticeship and job training efforts are focused largely on D.C.’s underserved, low-income populations.
- We get our hands dirty. D.C. Greenworks believes in learning by doing. Apprentices learn in concrete, hands-on ways that take them out of the textbook and into the field, and provide real-world experience and social skills that lead to improved future employment opportunities.
- We are efficient. D.C. Greenworks is entrepreneurial and collaborative in our approach and we use your resources with complete integrity. We depend on the money of individual investors like you, not on funds from government agencies. Your tax-deductible investment goes directly into advocating for and building more greenroofs across the region, while creating apprenticeship opportunities for local jobseekers.
- We’re just the beginning. D.C. Greenworks utilizes your resources in innovative, high-leverage ways. We do not see ourselves as policy analysts or lobbyists, but rather as initiators and implementers . . . creating the space for good things to grow in Washington, D.C.
How much should I invest?
D.C. Greenworks encourages you to invest at your highest appropriate level:
- a level that expresses your commitment to the environment of Washington, D.C. and the health of its residents.
- a level that gives you a real stake in the outcome—as partners in the process of creating a greener, cleaner future in D.C.
DCG Friends give of their money, time and talents in a variety of ways. Individuals give direct donations, stock planned gifts, and materials, goods, and services.
