DCG
has an 8-year history of serving the D.C. community. We’re
proud that so many members of our community have good things
to say about our work.
"As
a manager of a grants program for a major foundation, I have
been incredibly impressed with the
professionalism,
effectiveness and efficiency of D.C. Greenworks. They are strategic,
evaluate
their impact, and ask the right questions. Their willingness
to honestly examine their experiences, identify lessons, and
apply
learning is commendable. They consistently and transparently
engage diverse stakeholders and partners to ensure they are responsive
and true to their mission. I consider D.C. Greenworks a very
successful
learning organization!"

Wyckoff-Baird, The Aspen Institute, Washington,

Greenroof
Testimonials
"The
greenroof installation process was painless and actually enjoyable due
to the fact
that D.C. Greenworks was the general contractor. Now
we are the proud owner of one of the first greenroofs in downtown D.C.—thanks
to DCG!"
—Kelliann Whitley, Property Manager, Blake Real Estate, Inc.
"We just want to reiterate how happy we are with you and your team's work on our greenroof. A customer usually has some basic expectations:
- Schedule: Start and end work as promised
- Professionalism: Have people that show up and commit to doing the job right the first time
- Deliver: Do what you promised
- Respect: Keep the work area cleaned up given that it represents part of someone's home (or business)
You did a terrific job on all counts. We look forward to watching our rooftop develop over the next few months. We just want to thank you and ensure that you are aware that we appreciate your work."
—R.T., a Georgetown homeowner
“I
decided to incorporate a greenroof into the design of my house
because I wanted my home to have as little impact on the
environment as possible, and I wanted to integrate the serenity
of a garden into my living space. DCG’s expertise
in the engineering, hydrology, and horticultural aspects
of designing
and installing my greenroof has been outstanding. What
is unfolding is more beautiful that I could have imagined.”
— Nina
Garfield, a Takoma Park homeowner
"Over
the last several years D.C. Greenworks has been an extraordinary partner
of Shaw EcoVillage. Without their technical expertise and willingness
to be flexible, many of our projects would not have been completed on
time or in such a professional manner."
— Mike
Hill, Executive Director, Shaw EcoVillage Project
D.C.
Greenworks helped us turn part of a school parking
lot into a rain garden of flowers that keeps hundreds of gallons of
polluted storm water from flowing into Rock Creek Park. Bancroft
Elementary School's playground in Mount Pleasant, was a square
city block of unmitigated asphalt bordering Rock Creek Park. When
staff from the Department of Health Watershed Protection Division
first saw all the storm water flowing down the playground, they urged
us to apply for one of their rain garden stormwater mitigation
grants.
We
got the grant—but the project turned out to be far more
technically and bureaucratically complicated than we had ever imagined. Without
Dawn Gifford's experienced technical assistance and remarkable patience,
we would have given up. In addition, when we
discovered this fall that the cost of the construction materials had doubled,
Dawn graciously redid her part of the proposal and offered us a range of
possibilities and prices to fit our suddenly reduced circumstances.
Dawn
and D.C. Greenworks provide a constructive combination of the
visionary and the pragmatic, of native plants and of hydrology, that
enables small community organizations such as ours to turn asphalt
into black-eyed susans

Testimonials
Our family thanks D.C. Greenworks and our many stalwart neighbors for making our neighborhood a better place. Thank you for the shade and restful "greenness" you have brought to every day. You have showed our children how to care for our community—and how caring adults can make a difference.
"Citizenship" is not the most fashionable word of the moment, but it is a big part of what you are demonstrating. You are growing more than trees! Thank you!
—Susan Ousley, Seaton Elementary TreeKeepers
Each
time I look down Vermont Avenue I am in awe that we were able
to make this happen! This is what neighbors taking care of
the neighborhood really does!! There is no way this project
could have been pulled off without D.C. Greenworks and particularly
Bethie Miller. They will come back and say it was the neighbors...
and yes, we had a lot to do with it, but D.C. Greenworks was
the key to getting this project started and keeping it going!!!
A special thanks to their entire staff.
— Matthew
Ruest, Eastenders TreeKeeper Community
The
Westminster Neighborhood Association members absolutely came
alive when they
heard that D.C. Greenworks would show them how
to trim their trees. While the community was proud of all the trees
they had planted over the last several years with DCG, our combined
knowledge of pruning was close to nil. Greenworks trained us in
our own neighborhood, using some of our new trees as guinea pigs.
We have since taken this knowledge and trimmed all of our new trees.
We are now patiently waiting for them to grow strong and proud.”
— Lynn
Johnson, Westminster TreeKeeper Community
“The
Eastenders worked with D.C. Greenworks to better our neighborhood
in a fashion far expanding our wildest thoughts. This small
endeavor to plant a few trees has beautified the neighborhood,
brought new and old neighbors out of their houses and helped
to develop a relationship with neighborhood organizations!”

Testimonials
“Over
my many years of directing training programs and contracting
with businesses to deliver training for a disadvantaged population,
it has been a joy to work with D.C. Greenworks. They understood
our population and were able to get the message across to them.
. . Our students got top-notch training from their staff and
are now equipped to compete and be successful in the industry.”
— Michael
Shannon, Senior Employment Development Specialist, Covenant
House, Washington, D.C.
"Thanks
to D.C. Greenworks, in just one year the youth of the EcoDesign
Corps have learned how to construct
and install rain barrels, design and install a greenroof,
and we’re well on our way to constructing our very
own rain garden. . . .D.C.
Greenworks has helped the youth in our programs understand
the importance of making D.C. a greener city, not just
for today,
but for tomorrow as well.”
