Our Latest Initiatives:
H Street Grows Green
DC Greenworks, whose mission is to promote urban social revitalization through environmental restoration, and Green Living Consulting, a Capitol Hill-based company that helps businesses and households adopt eco-practices, have teamed up with H Street Main Street to help the H Street NE Corridor explore opportunities for greening local businesses and the surrounding community. As a historically and culturally unique corridor with many opportunities for redevelopment, H Street NE has an opportunity to create the greenest Main Street in the District of Columbia and possibly the country.
The main goal of the H Street Grows Green initiative is to help the H Street NE business community achieve the increased benefits of being both an environmentally sustainable as well as a vibrant and economically successful main street commercial district. DC Greenworks and Green Living Consulting will provide resources and education to the H Street Business community that can help strengthen their economic potential while reducing their impact on the environment and business operating expenses.

greeNEr
DC Greenworks is proud to announce that we have been awarded $150,000 by the Deputy Mayor's Office for Planning and Economic Development's Neighborhood Investment Fund Target Area Grant Program. Our new program, 'greeNEr' (Green Roofs for Environmental and Economic Revitalization), will provide funding for the subsidized installation of 11 green roofs in the H Street NE business corridor. The program will leverage community volunteers and train several green collar apprentices, while providing business owners with comprehensive project management and installation services, as well as up to $9,000 in subsidy towards applicable green roof expenses.
This exciting new program is the first step towards DC Greenworks vision to help make the H Street NE Corridor one of the greenest main streets in the country, topped off with green roofs, of course! Using the greeNEr model, a $3 million program could provide enough funding to green roof the entire 220,000 sq ft footprint of the commercial corridor, generate $1.5 million in private investment, train 40 green collar apprentices, engage 1,500 volunteers!
